SEE & DO

THINGS TO DO

So Much to See

Right on the border of famed Tuscany, you can visit Siena, the wineries of Montalcino or Montepulciano, shop for antiques in ancient Arrezzo or leather in Cortona or visit one of the many natural hot springs or spas nearby.

In historic Umbria, you can visit Assisi (home of Saint Francis), Gubbio, Todi, Spello, Perugia, shop for ceramics in Deruta, explore the underground of Orvieto sitting on its majestic tufa cliff; hike in the Piano Grande with masses of wild flowers or explore the largest waterfalls in Europe, Cascata Marmore.  Rent a paddle boat or windsurf the largest lake on the Italian Peninsula, Lago Trasimeno.

Easy day trips to Rome or Florence via the train station only 20 minutes away.  Avoid the traffic and parking hassle.

Deep Relaxation

Enjoy the sweetness of doing nothing. Relax in the sun and sand around Lake Trasimeno.  Or just kick back on one of the sun loungers by the pool and watch the light change on the iconic Italian countryside.

Free WineryTour

Every Tuesday, Colleen and Tom accompany guests to Castello Monte Vibiano Cantina, a completely “green” and certified carbon neutral winery.  Driving through the countryside, we pass castles, hamlets and panoramic views of Perugia and Assisi on our way.  After our arrival, we get into electric jeeps, pass through ancient olive groves, to the Fasola-Bologna family's most precious vineyard, Vigna Lorenzo, that has been a vineyard over 2200 years.  Returning to the cantina we learn how wine is made and relax on the wine terrace with panoramic views to taste their wines with toasted bruschetta, olive oil and cheese.

Market Tour

On Monday, we lead our guests to a nearby town that features a large open air market.  Over fifty trucks offer produce, clothing, shoes, cheeses, porchetta, honey and much more at great prices.

Food and Wine

Umbria is a food and wine lover's paradise.  With its many farms, vineyards and olive groves, all the produce is the freshest possible, creating masterpieces of regional cooking.  Known for its truffles, porcini mushrooms, beans of Trasimeno and organic beef and pork products, it is a gourmet dream.  Take a cooking lesson with a local chef to learn how to make Umbricelli, the pasta of our region, topped with fresh truffles or cinghiale, wild boar sauce. Lago Trasimeno produces fresh fish from the lake.  Norcia is known for its salamis made of wild boar and pork. Local Sagras, food fests that follow the seasons invite you to celebrate the asparagus, the strawberry, the mushrooms and all the harvests, gathering with the locals for a fine festival. We can book you a lunch at a local biodynamic vineyard or arrange for local truffle hunting in season. You can also enjoy fantastic coffee and gelato at the local village bar...

GUEST REVIEWS

This is the best of an Italian experience. Piegaro is a picture perfect village and L'Antica Vetreria the place to stay. Our apartment was the best accommodation we had during our entire three country month-long European journey. It was tastefully decorated with a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and gorgeous views out of every window. This is the place to recoup and relax. Tom and Colleen are gracious hosts looking after every detail to make one's visit memorable. The best part of staying with them in Piegaro was the cooking class and contact with local villagers and merchants who all were so friendly - and oh so patient with our Span-Italian. Great place for couples needing a get away rest or for a family building memories. Don't miss it!
